Sigma 28mm f1.8 II Aspherical

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Does anyone have experience with the above lens? How does it compare in quality with the MF Nikkor 28mm F2? also, Sigma lenses with compound aspherical elements have been known to fog up in the tropics. I live in Singapore, pretty much smack near the equator so this is of a concern to me. Any replies would b appreciated.

I have the Nikkor 28/2 AIS. While I don't know how the Sigma stacks up, I do know that you're setting the bar very, very high. The Nikkor is a stunning performer, even at minimum focusing distance (thanks to the CRC) or wide-open aperture.

The Sigma is a VERY NICE LENS-OPTICALLY! I bought mine after side by side comparison with MF Nikkor 2.0/28mm - wideopen the Sigma lens was a clear winner - sharp to the edges, while the Nikkor had sharp only the central part of the frame - the difference was visible even in prints 13x18 cm! Two stops closed - the lenses were nearly the same.Distortion - lower with the Sigma lens. Shooting the sun - less lost contrast with the Sigma... Build quality? - The Nikkor is much better, of course!!! Believe it or not, those were the results! So I sold my old Nikkor, bought the Sigma and had the money left to buy a second hand AF 1.8/85 mm Nikkor.May be the Nikkor had happened to be a "bad"sample and the Sigma a "nice"one...- who knows!?... As for fogging - no problem with mine - I live in Bulgaria...

Sorry for the one year delay of the answer - I'm new to Internet - hope you've made the right choice!

Best wishes!

Ivan
