The American Red Cross is now putting out their own information about Y2k.It is interesting that they advise "stocking up on supplies" and at the same time "do not recommend hoarding supplies." Be prepared...but only slightly??

Thanks, Littlesister. Its a start. Especially like ...

Check with the emergency services providers in your community to see if there is more information available about how your community is preparing for any potential problems. Be an advocate and support efforts by your local police, fire, and emergency management officials to ensure that their systems will be able to operate at all times.

Apparently, their distinction between stocking and hoarding is based on how long a time the supplies are expected to last for the stocker's household. Here's a quote:

"Stock disaster supplies to last several days to a week for yourself and those who live with you. This includes ... The Red Cross doesn't recommend hoarding supplies."

Personally, I've been advising DGI's to stock up for two weeks, since that seemed to be the maximum recommendation most would receive without tuning me out. (Better two weeks than none...)
