greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

Hey Titanic fans...didn't you notice abit of wrong at the end of the film. When Rose is blowing the whistle in desperation(I noticed this at the cinema),her natural green eyes are piercing the screen and then it flashes to Old Roses' scrunched up eyes that open to reveal sea blue tears...!!..James Cameron must have forgotton the contacts that day!!...was it on purpose as Kate Winslet has stunning eyes or just forgetfulness??

I noticed that in different lights, all throughout the movie, Kate's eyes looked different colors. I imagine that they are a mix of blue and green.

Well, I 've held my temper as long as I can. DIDN'T YOU HEAR OLD ROSE SAY SHE STARTED WEARING CONTACTS ONCE HER HUSBAND DIED??!! It was a common custom from about 1910-1960 for widows to to wear color contacts, out of respect for their husbands. This way they could remarry but remain faithful to their husbands' spirits. D'oh!!! AND AS FOR KATE'S EYES CHANGING THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE...Bullsh!p. Next time watch the movie without the beer in one hand and bong in another! I have never witnessed such insulting accusations!

Good gracious,Bob! I've never seen you go off like that. What in the world are you talking about?

I know, Bob! The nerve! Of all the little ungracious . . . I have decided to simply watch the movie when the color is totally whacked out so that EVERYTHING is green. It is best that way, because the people always look as if they are sea-sick!

I have wondered about that too. I wrote a letter to James Cameron and in his letter it said that it was the reflecting of the light.(the sea is blue and that's why Kate's eyes turned blue.)

I read this in a bloopers section once, when the flares were being sent off, Rose's eyes appeared green but that was because of the glare caused by the flares. Other than that, I hadn't noticed any change in eye colour, I'll watch more carefully next time. And I don't believe that about the colour of the sea reflecting her eye colour, my hazel eyes stay hazel, it doesn't matter if I'm swimming in a pool or at the beach.

sounds to me like bob needs to do a few bongs n chill out.

hey guys, i think some common sense should prevail here - old and young rose are both different people - believe it or not, but they are not actually same person in real life! doh!- therefore, their eyes are unlikely to much perfectly furthermore, coloured contacts in 1910? hmmm.... and finally, enough bongs here - just watch the movie again, it is worth it - the bongs seem to be where the confusion stems from...

Wow I found this by accident, however I am a titanic fan, and have been for years. Right where to start. It is possible that contact lenses could have been in use as early as 1910 due to the fact that Leonardo da Vinci invented the concept in 1508 and they were later manufactured from glass in 1887. It wasn't however until 1939 until the first plastic lenses appeared and even then it wasn't until 1971 that soft lenses began to appear. Although, I am not aware that it was traditional in any way, shape, or form for a widow of any period to take to wearing any sort of contact lenses, nor did the character of rose mention it! I strongly appose and doubt it; it would simply be unethical (not to mention extremely expensive) for the times. So Mr know it all, I fail to see why you are so annoyed by the comments made by the people above you, their views are just as valid if not more than yours. Everyone knows that eyes can appear to change colour depending upon what they reflect and the light that is upon them. The fact that Kate Winslets eyes change colour from that of Gloria Stewards is irrelevant, how closely are you people looking, I'm all for authenticity, and as a trainee film maker myself, these are continuity issues that every film makers wishes to address at the time, although we are human mistakes are made. I however feel James Cameron, had more on his mind than the changing eye colours of his many cast, and I for one feel that what he pulled off was a landmark of filmmaking that will take some time to surpass.
