In James Cameron's Titanic book, it says that Digital Domain did the special effects.

The easier question would be: "What computer graphic applications were not used in the making of Titanic?"

As far as I know, 3D Studio Max (from Kinetix) was not used. ;-)

Lightwave and SoftImage were used, as well as Prizms.

After Digital Domain was done with creating the SFX shots for Titanic, about a dozen people left DD to form their own SFX house: Station X Studios.

The best online resource that I've found for the visual effects in Titanic is VFX HQ.

The effects house Banned from the Ranch produced many seamless shots.
