Can anyone point me in the right direction to purchase a digital camera for around $500? I am looking for the best quality for the right price.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon:

While you're doing your research, take a look at the Hewlett Packard C30 digital camera, part of their PhotoSmart line. Dave Etchells has a review of the C20 on this site and the C30 is an advancement of the C20 for the same price: $399.00.

Take a look at Photosmart.com, a site my company created for HP. It has more information on the PhotoSmart line of products as well as tips for better photography and getting results using digital technology to manipulate images after the shutter. It's at http:// www.photosmart.com. It is an HP site, but it has lots of great information for any photographer.

Thanks!

Check the review of the Toshiba PDR-M1 camera. At a list price of $499, it offers the highest resolution (1280x1024) at the lowest price. Everything comes in the box.

I did a lot of research as I just ordered mine for christmas. The Olympus 340L was rated number 2 by Consumer Reports. I found it on the internet for $398.00 vs. between 450 and 600 at the stores. With the batteries and charger and an extra 8 mg card, it came to 528.00. I thought it was a great buy.

The Ricoh rdc-4200 has been surprizingly good to us so far. It's quite flexible, has good image quality (megapixal), lots of features including being NTSC compatible (just plug it into the video jack of the TV and show off your shots of the holidays on the big screen). All for $449.00 at Costco. Comes with a case and descent software too. David

In answer to your "best bang for the buck" digital camera. My choice is the Kodak DC-120 wich now sells on the internet for as low as $500. Sure its a somewhat akward camera to hold and the lcd screen is small. But you have to look far and wide to find a camera with all the options it has. I have two of them.
