Any way to waterproof a printed photo?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have just purchased a HP Photosmart printer and am very impressed with the results. The colors and details appear to be an exact reproductions of the captured photograph.

My only disapointment is that the ink runs if exposed to fluids.

My question is: Is there an aftermarket product available to seal the photo and waterproof it?

Hi Tom,

As a professional photographer, I'm familiar with various photo lacquers that you can purchase. I'd go to a camera store and they usually have McDonalds photo lacquer for sale.

Just make sure you use 7 or 8 VERY LIGHT coats. If you soak it at the start, I guarantee you'll get running and/or terrible color shifts.

Sentinel Imaging has some ink-jet spray also, but I haven't tried it.

If you really want waterproofing, buy some cold mount laminate and laminate your image.
