FYI

The U.S. Postal Service is issuing an Ayn Rand stamp in 1999, as part of its literary series.

On December 31, 1999, no doubt.......

What is Ayn Rand and Atlas Shrugged

"Atlas Shrugged" is the bible of the free enterprisers. It is the fictional account of the disastorous end result of the welfare state. Absolute must reading for the individualist and their contribution to society. One of the three greatest books I have read. Ayn Rand is the creator of "objectivist ethics" a disputed branch of philosophy.

Spooky indeed!

Atlas Shrugged is the greatest book I have ever read, and by a long, long way.

Hak, what are the other 2 books in your "three greatest"?

Leo I have great respect for people that see the world the way it really is and not the way pollyannas want it to be, so my three books are: 1. Atlas Shrugged 2. Economics In One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt 3. The Peter Principle

"Leo I have great respect for people that see the world the way it really is and not the way pollyannas want it to be..."

Sigh...And YOU know how the world REALLY is...

Ayn Rand spoke to a different world. Rugged individualism has brought this world to where it is now. Ain't it just grand?

How fitting, the stamp I mean. Have long lost the book so bought a used copy off of ebay auctions. Good reading for your retreat! May turn out to be the Bible (not being sacriligious, but you know what I mean) of 2001.

There's also an essay contest for scholarship on Atlas Shrugged. I just bought the book last week. My daughter's applying to scholarships, so I got this info in my emailbox. Now she wants to read it...we'll have to share time on it ;)

Spooky, indeed. I, too, consider Atlas Shrugged one of the best books ever written. Kinda makes me wonder if there really is a John Galt... and he really did figure out how to stop the motor of the world.
