digital camera close ups

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am looking for a megapixel digital camera that allows true macro lens 1:1 capability or interchangable lenses and maybe ring flash. It would be for medical documentation type purposes. Any leads. Thanks

1:1 is a bit of a misnomer in the digital world, as the sensors are only 1/2" wide or so: A thousand pixels across 1/2" of your subject probably isn't what you're looking for! A good reference would be our macro photograph, which has an object of identifiable size (the brooch is about an inch across) for reference in all photos. All of these are shot at closest approach in macro mode, so this should be of some help. I'm sure I saw a ring-flash somewhere for a digicam, but can't for the life of me remember where - How about it someone? - If nothing else, you could probably rig an adapter for a camera with flash sync and external filter threads on the lens, models like the new Olympus D-600L, or the Nikon 900s. (Filter threads also let you use external close-up lenses, which may be important to your application: I routinely tack a couple of my pricey Nikon multi-element macro "filters" onto my Oly 600 (via adapter rings) to take *real* close- ups.
