Scanner comparison

How does the Microtec Scanmaker 5 and the Umax Powerlook IIIse compare in 2.25 negative capture quality to the Kodak 3570 dedicated film scanner? Also, where can the Kodak 3570 be found for sale? I have serched everywhere and can not find one.

I think the 3570 is only sold through Kodak Professional dealers (The trick will be finding one that has it in stock!) The 3570 will almost certainly blow away the flatbeds, but it's price will likely blow away your wallet. (I don't know what they sell for, but am certain it's a * *whole* lot more than the ~$1K the flatbeds go for.) Another option is Minolta's new Dimage Scan Multi, which we're supposed to be testing sometime towards the end of December. It is a film scanner made to handle either 35mm or 6cm film, but will sell for a relatively modest price (under $2K?) The Minolta web site should have info on it by now: It was released first in Europe, should be in the US by now.
