Stovall Lumber Glover ??? North Carolina...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Shortline, Narrow Gauge and Industrial Railroading : One Thread

Looking for evidence of the logging/lumber operation in Stovall NC that allegedly had a Glover locomotive on the roster. Some scant information has this locomotive still in the woods someplace and trying to update accounts of its whereabouts. Also, and other good information on lost locomotives in North Carolina area requested.

I am formally from Stovall, NC. and yes I have been told that there was a narrow gauge railroad used for a logging operation on what is now the Puckett farm and the Dickerson farm. This line could have extended past these farms both of which are quite large. You are the first person that has ever raised a question about the railroad that I have known about. I know where the old railroad bed is but never have seen an old locomotive in the area. I have hunted all the woods in the area quite extensively. If you are still interested in this railroad I would be happy to chase a question with the local's in town(pop. about 500). I still go home every month.

I have 4 pictures of an action to loading locos on a barge, and then one of the pictures shows a engine sitting in about 3 feet of water all by it's self. I assume it came off the barge. These all came out of the Glover's file. I haven't looked them up yet but seems to me it was North or South Carolina, could that be what you are looking for? Where exactly is Stover Lumber? The Glover Steam Locomotives by Hillman leaves a little to be desired for 2nd owners. 73 Roy

I can't help with this loco, but there are many of these lost loco stories and some of them may be true. One of the common ones is that a loco fell into a swamp and was left because the cost of removal was greater than its value. Good luck and keep us posted.
