Hello Rory!

As you have probably found, there is an absolute dearth of information concerning Ricoh camers. It is unfortunate, as they are great bargains and well made tools for photography. I was looking for an XR-7MII, which I presume to be an upgrade of the earlier XR7. From the information I received from Ricoh, the XR-7MII has a metal chasis and a more rugged feel than, say, the KR5. I cannot find the information I had on the XR-7MII, but I believe, for all intents and purposes, it is simply a heaftier version of KR5, which is why I wanted to get one. I haven't seen an XR-7 anywhere, not even on eBay (although who knows). However, an XR7MII can be bought for around $250 through Adorama, B&H, and others. Good luck with your search.

My first camera was a Ricoh XR7(12 years ago) and it met an untimely end when the family dog got it.(Don't ask how it happened- I don't even know) Since then I have used many other cameras, but still remember the dependability that Ricoh worked with. For 10 years I have been searching for one and have come up dry. If any one could be of assistance please email me.

Dear Sarah Leslie, I had a RICOH XR7 camera, though it was a good camera, it suddenly became defective and I couldn't fix it yet. Even with new battery, it appears to be dead. I don't know what is the problem. Good luck with your search for XR7. Varghese A C varghese@attumalil.com

I have a richo xr7 which has served me well for about 17years and has finally stopped working in the cold. The shutter stayed open during the lunar eclipse. It needs a fuill service but the cost is prohibative. Is there a service manuel available on the net or can someone send me one. By the way the XR7 is still available in the uk second hand at some dealers.

Rory, The Ricoh XR7 is an excellent Ricoh camera of the early 1980s. You can sometimes find one or a few on ebay, which is where I bought mine. The camera features a full information viewfinder which includes aperature direct readout. Exposures are Aperature Priority Auto and Manual, with speeds of 16 seconds down to 1/1000 sec (stepless in Auto). Flash synch is at 1/125 sec. Other features include a top ASA speed of 3200, exposure compensation in 1/3 stops, DOF preview lever, audible self timer with LED light, AE Lock, multiple exposure capability, x-synch terminal for studio flash, bottom contacts for the Ricoh XR winder II, and of course, the Pentax K lens mount. The camera also accepts a data back, but according the an ebay auction, the last year for it's usage is 1999. Presently I am looking to see if the camera accepts another data back. I hope this helps. --Timoteo Canales

I have a Ricoh XR7 that I bought in the early 80's. I am an amature photographer but I had great success with this camera. Unfortunately the rewind arm is broken and a local camera repair shop told me that replacement parts are no longer available and even if the parts were available the repair cost would be prohibitive. But, I enjoy this camera so much that I will not give up on my mission to find parts and have it repaired.

If anyone comes across a manual for the Ricoh XR7, please let me know where it can be obtained.
