Hi, I'm new to this forum, and would like to know if anyone has knowlege of TVA and the Chattanooga Electric Power Board? Getting information other than their legal jargon (they don't FORESEE a problem, they have a schedule and a budget) has been impossible. Thanks. L

L. W., in an answer to the Sec. Gov. Info Search Engine question of 1998-11-05, Rick Cowles wrote about the types of utilities which must file information with the Securities and Exchange Commission. I've copied the passage here:

"For the most part, the only electric companies filing SEC disclosures in 10Q's or 10K's are investor owned utilities whose securities are traded in the stock market.

The following types of electric companies probably won't have SEC disclosures:

1) Municipally owned power companys 2) Electric power cooperatives 3) Privately owned electric companies 4) Government owned companies (such as TVA, BPA, etc.) 5) Any other "not for profit" or member owned type of electric company.

Answered by Rick Cowles (rcowles@waterw.com) on November 05, 1998."

As you can see, since the TVA is not a publicly traded corporation, getting specific details out of them may prove to be difficult. Try calling your Congressman (and/or Senator) and see if he/she can get answers to specific questions. If it's government owned, by golly your tax dollars are paying for it. Press your state and federal officials for details on that basis. Tell them it's your understanding that public officials are supposed to work for those who elected them if they stall you. And since the power company's status will affect citizens directly, you deserve to know exactly where they are in remediation. Be polite, but firm. That's the best I can think of for you to do right now, other than call a major newspaper in your area and express your concerns and desire for more info to them. If you do come up with anything, post it back here so others can access the information, OK? Best of luck to you!
