Takumar or Pentax 300mm

I have a Pentax 6X7 lens called "Super-Multi-Coated TAKUMAR/6X7" SN 8473983 that I am using with a P645 and adapter until I can afford the ED lens for P645. Where is this lens in the heirarchy of 300mm lens and approximately how old is it? And, when time comes to sell it, what is it worth (excellent condition). It gives me great results BTW but I haven't blown a photo up to 11 x 14 or larger. I can't imagine it ranking in the lower level of P67 lens per sharpness.

Warren: Pentax changed the Takumar designation on the 300mm in 1988 to Pentax. There is no difference optically between the two. I suspect that Pentax will upgrade this design like they did on the 400mm Takumar. It is one of their oldest designs. Optically, this lens is fairly sharp but is limited by an inaccurate DOF scale on the barrel and by excessive overhang when mounted on the tripod. Because of the overhang, this lens is susceptible to shutter harmonics. Since you are not using its full image circle, your shots will be sharper than using this lens on the 6x7. Also, when this lens is used on the 6x7, it is necessary to use a huge tripod to prevent shutter harmonics from degrading the image. You might want to save your money and not get the ED version, that is unless you shoot mostly wide open. Your lens is worth $850. SR
