Contract for "A" Proposal--Participate in the Local Political Process

I am the student council advisor at Proctor High School. This year we are trying to be more active in politics by first being educated about the November election, secondly by promoting our schools operating referendum, and finally by attending school board meetings. This fall the student council and I attended the Governor's Luncheon at Blackwoods restaurant in Proctor. At the luncheon we had the opportunity to meet Governor Carlson and Mayor Coleman. For many of the students it was their first opportunity to listen to a live candidate and be able to ask questions. The experience lead to a great discussion about the candidates running for governor and what the information is that we need to know.

Not only did we pay close attention to the candidates in the November election we also spent some time promoting the operating referendum that our school district was trying to pass. We handed out flyers, visited the local senior citizen home, wrote letters to the editors, attended town meetings and city council meetings, and educated our own student body. The outcome of our operating referendum was successful and the students were proud to help. We are continuing to stay involved in the local political process by having a student representative attend school board meetings. This way the school board stays more aware on what is important to the students and the students have a voice to represent them.

Contract for "A" Proposal--Participate in a Mentorship Program I am the student council advisor at Proctor High School. This year we are planning on participating in several student exchanges. We will be sending students and receiving students for a whole day from Duluth East, Duluth Denfeld, and Cloquet.

The student exchange is intended to give students an opportunity to learn about other high schools. During the student exchange students will attend classes, lunch, and a student council meeting with a mentor from that school. For Proctor students it is a chance to ask students from other high schools questions about current issues being discussed or implemented in our school. Some examples to be discussed are closed campuses, dress codes, parking lots, and studyhalls. Students also take the time to see how another schools student council is run and to exchange ideas.

Contract for "B" Proposal--Document Participation in an Educational Program

Each year the PLUS Center at The College of St. Scholastica provides an institute for intermediate, middle, and high school teachers in different areas of mathematics that can be taken for graduate credit. I am currently enrolled for graduate credit in the institute on Discrete Mathematics. We already met June 17-19, 1998, June 22-26, 1998, and October 29, 1998. Our final meeting date is April 13, 1999. During the institute we investigate discrete mathematics content, determine how it relates to other mathematics, decide the role it should have in curriculum, and how it addresses the Minnesota9s Graduation Rule. As seminar participants we are expected to attend all sessions, maintain a journal, observe two other participants, and plan and teach a lesson to be observed. There are further requirements for participants who wish to take it for graduation credit. The class is graded as a pass or fail. Therefore, the credits can't be transferred into The University of Minnesota Duluth9s Masters of Education program.

Both contracts for grades will be presented in the required format.
