IMHO, while I admire the exposure, tonalities, and abstract qualities present in this image, I think I still prefer your previous submission ("Mating Moths") for overall effect.

A very nice image, I hope the original is sharp enough to make those scales and the bark stand out strongly.

Two nits to pick, though: You've cut off the tips of the insect's antennae - they are very inportant and not like cutting off part of the wings, which looks intentional. The cut off antennae tips look like a mistake. Also, the slight variance of the body from a true vertical with respect to the frame also seems to be carelessness rather than an artistic decision. Of the two nits, the first is the more important.

Regards,

Frank

I like this image for reasons that likely will be different than others. Moths often sleep against trees, or rest on them to drink the sap. Ussually they are very well camouflaged and they blend in against the tree they rest on. Different species seem to prefer different species of trees. I am guessing this is due to evolution. I like the symetrics of this shot and I hope you pulled back and took a few that showed how the critter blended with the background for camouflage.

I very much enjoy the soft colors, lines, and simple contrast, but I agree that the image is overcropped. The moth seems crowded in the frame.
