Proposed project for a grade of "B"

I will be participating on the Governance Team during the Spring Semester. I would like to be a part of the decision making process regarding how our graduate work will progress.

Proposed project for a grade of "A"

I would like to do some reading on the topic of special education. Special education is the area in which I would like to do my research project. I know that reading other articles/books will help me narrow my question(s) for determining my research project. I will ask the special education department at my school for some suggestions. In the past I have attended workshops for motivating my students in my algegra classes. I would like to keep that option open if the opportunity arises. My school is having difficulty finding substitutes, so we have been turned down for requests for attending workshops. If that situation improves, I would rather attend workshops and/or seminars on professional growth. Please respond with any suggestions. Thank you.

I realized that we need to propose a separate pair of projects for the two separate semesters. Since I will be participating on the Governance Team for the Spring, that will be one of the two projects for the Spring term. I will submit a more complete and final draft of my proposal after a bit more research.

Please ignore the first two messages. I believe I am now clear on what is expected.

My proposal for a grade of "A" includes the following:

PROJECT ONE/TERM ONE: I am interested in learning more about the topic of special education and at-risk students. A few of the other cohort members and myself have agreed to work together to design a curriculum for these students in our schools. Two of us have a "school within a school" situation. My school has what we call the "Links Program" for students who cannot make it in the regular classroom for various reasons. Some of them are on a half-day schedule, and they participate in a work-study program as well. I need to do some reading/research on this so that I can better understand my task of designing a worthwhile curriculum. Therefore, I would like to read a book on this subject and report my findings.

PROJECT TWO/TERM ONE: I am interested in attending workshops and seminars in the area of mathematics or special education. I am aware of two such programs that will take place this year; however, I am not sure whether they will be during the first term or the second. The NCTM Math Conference and the Head of the Lakes Math Conference are the two that I am interested in attending. If they are not during this term them I am sure I will be reading more than one book as stated above that I can do another report on. Our school is having difficulties finding substitutes, and our principal is not allowing us to attend professional development events. We are only allowed to take sick leave and personal leave, unless we can find our own substitutes. This presents a problem with my plan. This is also the reason I have discussd my backup plan for reading another book.

PROJECT ONE/TERM TWO: For the second term, I will be participating on the Governance Team. I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of the decision making process regarding my graduate work.

PROJECT TWO/TERM TWO: I will be supervising a student teacher from UWS beginning in January. I spoke with Karen about possibly using this as a project. She directed me to Carol Bacig in the Duluth School District who has a series of videos on observation strategies. The program is apparently put out by ASCD, and it is called "Looking Into Classrooms." I am hoping that I can get the videos for the purpose of giving my student teacher a more indepth experience rather than the typical, "How did it go today?" type of feedback. I know that this experience will benefit myself as well. I am only in my third year of teaching, and I am always trying to improve on my skills in the classroom. This program will allow me to take a deeper look at how I am doing and what I need to do differently.

Please respond with comments and/or suggestions. Thank you.
