I am a second year teacher at Grant Elementary working in the special ed. program with 1-6 grade students with learning disabilities. It is both a pull-out as well as an inclusion program. We try to use inclusion as much as possible, and only in some certain circumstances, we use a pull out model. The students love to come out of their rooms, yet we feel it is best for them to remain with their peers as much as possible. It is a challenging position due to the at risk attendance area that our school draws from, yet it makes my job that much more rewarding. We have 2 full time assistants that work in our room, allowing the students even smaller group sizes. Although I am also licensed in regular elem. ed 1-6, I am very happy with my current position, and I am sure I will continue in this field. The address at Grant Language Magnet is 1027 N. 8th Ave. East 55805 733-2156. We are a Language Magnet and begin teaching both Spanish and Ojibwe in kindergarten. Our morning announcements come to us in both Spanish and English, both are spoken by our 6th grade students. I also am a track coach at Central High School working with the long distance girls. This spring will be my 3rd year as their coach.
