Oly 400 improved image quality over 340?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

A direct question for the forum owners/reviewers: Has the image quality improved on the Oly 400 over its predecessor, the 340? I'm aware of the new features, but I'm specifically interested in Image quality. Thank you.

My impression is that the color and dynamic range of the D-400 Zoom are both improved over the D-340. The D-400 images are a little lower contrast, but the camera does an excellent job of preserving both highlight and shadow detail. But then... Make your own decision - check out both side by side in the Comparometer(tm) and/or download the images and print on your printer.

I should have checked comparometer before asking, but I was interested in your opinion. Now that I've checked myself -- MY GOODNESS! How did they improve it so much? The indoor shot with flash in particular is stunning, and I see dramatic improvement in the house shot. The OLY 600 still blows everything away for the outdoor shot though. Now I just need to see the minolta 1500 review, and I'll be set to make my decision and purchase.
