Make a blow gun. : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In going through the whole earth catalog, I came upon a piece on making a blow gun. Its just a 4 foot piece of 1/2 inch aluminum tubing. The darts can be made from things such as the ends of knitting needles stuck onto gold tees. A mouth piece can be fashioned out of wood. They mentioned a company that sold mouthpieces at that time so perhaps there are sources out there now. The accuracy can be quite good with practice and it said the effective distance was up to 25 yards with a force similar to a 22 caliber rifle. The biggest benefit I can see is that it would be silent. You might want to pick up a rabbit for dinner but not invite the neighbors.

Ooops... Make that "golf" tees in the above. *Gold* golf tees only if you can afford them.

You can purchase a blow dart gun at most sporting good stores that carry bow and arrows. Also a pellet gun will take a rabbit or squirrel. Also check with Army surplus stores. My friend bought his at a sporting goods store. I'm thinking about buying a cross bow.

I have also been considering the crossbow route as a back up and for some hunting. Have you decided on a company or make yet?

I bought my husband a blow gun for his birthday this year, from the "The Daily Planet" catalog. I think it came from Malaysia.

He spent the afternoon putting holes into a piece of plywood from varying distances. There is NO doubt in my mind that you could "neutralize" a rabbit if you could get your accuracy up there. I also have no doubt that a little of something special on the tips would make for a formidable weapon. The biggest draw back is the length. Kind of unwieldly for stealth or close quarters. Best thing in that respect is that it would be unexpected.

Good Lord, listen to me! I've been watching too many 'guy' movies!!!

Honey, tonight we rent 'City of Angels'!!!

Oh for a minute there I thought you were serious.
