I'd like to read the 10Q report from The Illuminating Co., Cleve., OH. Can someone help me?

Hi Sam, a search on the edgar site at:

http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/srch-edgar

showed that Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company's last filing was 3/17/1998. I don't know whether this means that they have merged with another company and are filing under a different name, or their 10Q filing for this last quarter of 1998 hasn't been received and/or entered to the onsite archives yet. Keep checking the site, just type in the name of the company, hit enter, and look on the list for that 10Q dated after Oct. 1, 1998. Or call their local business office and ask if they have filed a 10Q yet and under what name it was sent to the SEC. Good luck to you!

I believe you'll find them under "Cleveland Electric Illuminating". Their latest 10Q is dated 8/12/1998.

I personally like using the EDGAR Lynx search engine at:

http://www.sec.gov/edaux/formlynx.htm

All you have to do is plug in the company name, and all forms that have been filed with SEC in the past 5 years should be there.

Response to Y2K status of The Illuminating Co., of Cleve., Oh.

I have used the parent company name FirstEnergy, when looking for their 10-Q or 10-K info. By the way, I requested and received a letter from FirstEnergy describing their progress on Y2K compliance. Unfortunately, like many companies, it was not very helpful. They state, "Because many aspects of the Year 2000 compliance are out of our control, we recommend that you assess the risks associated with the potential service interruptions and take measures to ensure the continuity of electric supply for critical functions."

Check out Ed Yourdon's forum where I excerpted the relevant portions of the most recent 10Q for a couple of other Cleve-ites (Pun unintentional and highly dated!)
