5212.5D Update

greenspun.com : LUSENET : DON Records Management Working Group : One Thread

Folks,

I sent to NARA today correspondence that covers all of Scott Roley's concerns about required annotations of approved job order numbers in the 5D version of the Disposition Manual. I have contacted him to let him know this is enroute and have also e-mailed a copy to him due to a paragraph that states "unless otherwise directed, Navy will consider this correspondence as approval authority for SECNAVINST 5212.5D." If for some reason Scott is not happy with my letter, I will let you know, but it seems that the 5D is finally going to be approved for use by FRC's so we all can sing off the same sheet of music.

Steve,

This is good news. I am currently transferring records to the WNRC. Up to this point, I have had to use the .5C version as they would not accept the .5D version. I presume I should wait for several days before sending anything over under the .5D.

This raises another issue, however. Some of my schedules in the .5D have not been approved by NARA. Do you know if WNRC will accept the "pending" schedules for transfer and storage? This is a pretty big issue for NCIS as some of our retention periods have changed dramatically. Additionally, in most cases the records series number also changed. At some point, we are going to have to update our records being held at WNRC to conform to the .5D.
