A beautiful image. Well composed. Well exposed. It is simple and elegant. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I would agree with Bahman if (and only if) the shilouette of the island were sharp in focus).

I like how the shapes mirror each other, and are offset. It could be more interesting as a large print that on my boring monitor. I still like it overall.

Thanks for the comments. I also would love to see a bit more sharpness on the island. Alas, given the circumstances the usual techniques for ensuring sharpness were impossible to implement. I had gone out to a small deck on a foggy evening. Upon looking North I noticed the most singular sunset I have ever seen. The setting sun was illuminating the fog with a brilliant display of orange and red. Due to the layout of the ship, taking any image without including some very unphotogenic junk required me to lean way over the railing and hand hold the camera while attempting not to fall overboard. I manage to fire several shots, change to manual, meter the colored fog, and take a few more bracketed shots. This is the best.

The other reason for lack of sharpness is, I believe, the Master PhotoCD that this image is taken from. The slide (Sensia 100 Nikkor 80-200 f/2.8 zoom) is sharper. I am so disappointed by the quality of even the highest resolution images that I will probably put my plans for a digital darkroom on hold for at least another year.

Don't sweat the lack of sharpness -- I actually think it complements th "fuzziness" of the sunset well. Very impressionistic. You are to be congratulated for capturing a moment rather than just an image.

I agree with the last comment - the fuzziness is not a detractor at all, given the soft quality of the image. It has a wonderful mood; the island almost appears to be drawn toward the light. Makes me miss northern Vancouver Island...

Two thumbs up. A little tighter cropping along the top may be in order, and I think the right should be cropped to eliminate the small point of no doubt artificial light, which would also improve the overall balance of the image, in my opinion.
