gartner group less pessimistic

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I was just reading that the Gartner Group has changed from "doom and gloom", to saying that there will be disruptions but not the end of the world. They say that a lot of progress has been made, and will be made in the time remaining. For this I'm glad. I do not want the melt-down scenario or having to worry about contracting Typhiod fever. A Gary North I am not. As sick as this may sound, I would like a few disruptions, just enough for the people that made fun of me to get scared. I doubt that I am alone in this feeling.

If there are no problems at all:

"Oops, I was wrong. I'm glad I prepared for the worst, and I'm even happier it didn't happen."

More realistically:

Phase One:

Let us all practice for a minute exactly what it would take if there are "no" serious problems occuring due to Y2K, after a certain period of time (say 5 days of continuing service inJan 2000)

All together now, everybody practice:

"FANTASTIC!!!!!! Thank God and the people who helped fix things last year. We've gotten this far. Keep your records and receipts, they may help for bills at the end of this month.

Phase two: At the end of February, if the payments for January have ALL been posted correctly, and everybody who is still capable is still working, (there is no recession, no widespread business failures):

All together now, practice:

"FANTASTIC!!!!!! Thank God and the people who helped fix things last year. We've gotten this far. Keep your records and receipts, they may help for taxes due in April." .

Phase Three: When the IRS completely fails and they can't tell if anybody has paid what amounts in taxes....

All together now, practice saying:

"FANTASTIC!!!!!! Thank God.
