This morning we had our first Governance Team Meeting for the International Falls Cohort. We held the meeting by way of a conference phone call. The following people were online for the meeting: Mary Jean Menzel, Terry Anderson, Mary Ann Rotondi, Bruce Trask, Timm Ringhofer, and Tim Everson.

We went through the calendar/syllabus that is posted on the web page. We reviewed the syllabus through March 3, 1999. Several proposed changes were discussed. The actual changes will be discussed and decided by the cohort at future classes. It was agreed that the entire group should be involved with the decision making process. There will be a new calendar/syllabus posted on the web in the next few days reflecting time changes that were discussed at the Wednesday October 21st class session.

The next Governance Team Meeting will be held on Friday November 20, 1998. If you have any concerns that you would like discussed at the next meeting, please let us know.

Notes from Governance Team Meeting

On Friday December 18, 1998 the governance team met via phone conference. Online were Mary Ann Rotundi, Mary Jean Menzel, Timm Ringhofer, and Tim Everson.

The calendar was discussed for the upcoming weeks. We talked about the need for our cohort to have training in the areas of both qualitative and quantitative research to aid us in the completion of our research papers. Mary Jean will arrange for UMD staff members to come to the Falls on two separate occasions to present on each of the above mentioned areas. We all agreed that the sooner the better because members are interested in getting started. On January 13, 1999, there will be a full night presentation and discussion on qualitative research and on February 3, 1999 there will be another full night presentation and discussion on quantitative research. These evenings should answer many of the questions that we have and will help prepare us for the research end of the paper. We will also discuss coming up with the question that we will be answering with our paper.

Other important dates are as follows:

January 13, 1999 The second Utne Reader article summary is due. You should use an article from the July-August 1998 reader that we received on Wednesday December 16, 1998.

January 27, 1999 We will be in the computer lab from 4:30-6:00. A 2-3 page posting of our reaction and thoughts on the Glasser text will be due by this date. If you are having problems posting this to the web page, this will be the night to get help. We will also be reading other members reactions and will be posting comments to them.

February 17, 1999 We will be in the computer lab from 4:30-6:00. On this night we will be creating a presentation using PowerPoint. The members that are taking the second computer class over Valentines Day will be assisting other members with this task. Start thinking about a subject for your presentation. These topics may include any A or B projects that you are working on, topics for research that you have decided on, or something about one of the articles or books that you have read to date. These are not the only possibilities so dont panic. These presentations can be on just about anything that you may be doing with education. I just thought that it would be a good idea to let you know that we would be doing this so you could start thinking about it. You dont need to have any paper or anything written for this night, just have some ideas. The whole idea of this project is to familiarize you with PowerPoint. If you have any questions or concerns, drop me an e-mail (teverson@yahoo.com) or give me a call 285-2096.

The cohort calendar has again changed due to the addition of the research training that we will be receiving in January and February so check the web page for the updated version. Mary Jean will be updating it soon.

Jill, Mary Jean will be e-mailing you in regard to facilitating on January 6, 1999

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us and well be glad to pass on your concerns. Our next governance team meeting will be on Friday January 22, 1999 at 7:30 am.

Have a great break and well see you after the Holidays. : )

Notes from Governance Team Meeting

On Friday February 26, 1999 the governance team met via phone conference. Online were Mary Ann Rotundi, Mary Jean Menzel, Timm Ringhofer, Bruce Trask, and Tim Everson.

We spent most of the meeting discussing our research project. On Wednesday March 3, 1999, Terry will be bringing a handout that will outline the research paper and will include projected dates for completion of the various parts. On March 17, 1999 there is a one page, single spaced research proposal due. This may be posted to the web page. By mid-April we should have completed a 6-10 page official proposal. More of the specifics will be given next Wednesday.
