How to Involve More Parents

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ottawa School Closures : One Thread

I am a Community Association rep in the CWG for planning area 4. I am interested in finding ways to have more parent involvement. We as reps can only assume that the directions that we are taking are those of the parents since so few of them attend. Is there a way to get more parents involved?

Hi,

One way that we used in planning area 2 is to hold a public meeting, invite all the schools in your planning area to attend. They are easy to organize. Prepare a flyer, ask each school council rep to distribute it to all parents at their schools, ask community reps to distribute it to thier community councils, etc.

It is helpful to have someone present the key issues:

The process, what cwg's are being asked to do, the government's new funding formulas for existing schools and the funding of new schools.

and people that will be able to answer questions.

This is only one way to begin to get information that is accurate out to parents, but it is a good start I think.
