75 mm Shift lens

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Pentax 67 SLR : One Thread

Since no one hast posted a wuestion for a while, let me throw something out there. I have not seen anything much in the archives about the 75mm shift lens. How useful is this animal? I am thinking of outdoor/scenics with converging lines, not just for architecture. Comments from anyone who is/was using this lens?

Thanks

Jim, I use the P67 75 shift lens quite a bit actually, and not just for achitectural work. Although it is a bit heavy, it's extremely sharp and stops down to f32. In 35mm, the equivalent would be about a 38mm lens. The shifting feature is nice for moving the horizon off center in landscapes without tilting the camera. For architectural exteriors it is great; although not really wide enough for interiors. You can find this lens used sometimes for around $1600. I carry the 45, 75 shift, 90 2.8, and the 200 f4. I suggest renting or trying this lens out before you slap down your cash. I love the 75 shift, and although it is a manual lens, without a diaphragm, it is easy to use.

jim, i use the shift lens for arch photography, although the whole setup is a bit heavy the results are more comparible to a 4x5 than to a 35mm shift, and the setup time takes seconds versus minutes. i installed a grid focusing screen which is incredible for aligning the perspectives.
