Status report on East Tennessee power???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

Is there a website or other way to find out about a specific state area -- such as Cosby (Cocke County) Tennessee? What about Council Grove (Morris County) Kansas? How do we know ahead of time whether our electric service is compliant? Is the power and light companies in East Tennessee locked into power grids of other places, that are non-compliant????

Sheila, I've read and answered several posts from other people looking for the same kinds of answers as you are. Unfortunately, I've found that the utilities are not making any definitive statements about their y2k readiness or compliance. The attorneys for these companies are scared witless that to admit non-compliance will open them up to the threat of all sorts of lawsuits. Add to this the fact that any publicly traded company who admits that they won't be ready for the millenium turnover will, in all probability, get their stock prices hammered through the floor on the next day of trading. Without advance warning of any problems, the best policy seems to be for everyone to prepare for at least some minor outages that may extend for several weeks in some areas. The lack of information about this problem borders on the criminal but we can still ease our minds by being prepared for the possible loss of utility services Hope this helped All success Keith
