lines accross scanned pictures

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi, I own a UMAX PageOffice Color scanner. All pictures that I scan have lines accross them sometimes the lines are more visible, and they are in various colors at toher times the lines are faint horizontal stripes accross the scanned picture. Is there something wrong with my scanner; Could it be that I am using to high or to low a resolution; Is there a difference in scanningpictures o "matt" or glossy paper; How do I solve this problem.

you can see examples of the problem on my family hose site http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/7765/

With thanks

Hi David, I looked at the photo you provided the link for, it looks like a feed problem in the scanner. Maybe no fault of the scanner though - I'd guess you're feeding 4x6 photos through a "page" scanner, rather than a flatbed. This paper is both too slippery and too stiff to feed well through the rollers. You may want to get a "flatbed" scanner, which won't require the photo to move during the scan. Short of that, you might try feeding the photo lengthwise, rather than horizontally, and then rotate it in software after the scan. This may make it easier for the scanner to handle the stiff paper... Good Luck!

I had a very similar problem..dust was the culprit. Be sure the glass that encases the light is dust free...inside and out. Dust is a pain with sheet feed scanners. U may have to open the glass to get to the dust..but trust me..that is the problem..of course first try the outside of the glass cover. I finally bought a flatbed..yes it is bigger...but no more lines. good luck!!
