digi camera for iMac

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have very recently purchased and iMac computer in Australia and am looking for a digital camera which will fit onto the new USB connections. There are not many shops with digital cameras in my town and the ones that do, dont know what USB is or whether the camera they hold will fit the USB. I have not owned or used a digital camera before. I looked at a Canon Powershot 350 which retails for $639 (Ausralian dollar) but again the attendant didnt know if it had the right connection. Help!

There aren't a lot of USB-connected cameras out yet, other than low-res "video" ones. Kodak's DC220 and DC260 both have USB ports, and I *think* Kodak is now shipping a Mac connection kit that includes drivers for the iMac. (Although, if the PowerShot 350 is selling for $639, I can't imaging *what* the DC260 would go for!) In any case, check with Kodak, or browse their website to see what you can find. Right now, the DC220 is probably your best bet for a (reasonably) affordable USB-connected camera. (Last-minute thought: If you can find a card-reader for CompactFlash cards that uses USB to connect to the iMac, that would open up a huge range of cameras to you!)
