If you know of a compliant utility, could you post its name here?

We could use some good news. Do you know of a compliant utility? If so, could you post its name and, if possible, its web site address here.

Good luck. The first problem is that no standard, accepted definition of "compliance" exists in the industry. There are lots of good ones (like the BSI) but nothing legally defined. Second, even if a utility were "compliant" they cannot guarantee unterrupted service because of their dependence on other external agents such as other power utilities, fuel suppliers, etc.

We recently got a notice from the local Electric and Gas co that "your bills will be accurate in Jan. 2000."

I don't care if the bill is accurate, as long as I have something to plug into! Nothing said about that. Upon checking further, I learned that they recently sold off all generators, to save money on the EPA mandated pollution controls. So now we have NO generators that are controlled locally. Will the lights be on in Jan 2000? Yes, they say, we are working on it! And I'm buying more candles!

I think there isn't any list, database or something like that with complant utilities. I don't agree that this situation is due to one good definition of compliancy. When a utility has tested a power plant according to the Britisch Standard then they can call it millennium compliant. In Holland we are testing our plants on 7 dates and we are soon calling one or two power plants Millennium compliant. We know the risks and therefore we can say it loud and clear against the whole world. Why play hide and seek for the standard?
