End up with red faces

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have a HP5100C scanner; HP Deskjet 722C printer. Usually scan into Adobe Photo Deluxe 3 or Printmaster Gold. Colors on final printed document usually look OK except I can't get the red out of faces. Applying editing within these programs helps some, but to get the red out of the faces, lowers the quality of the rest of the colors. Any suggestions?

Jackie- Overly-ruddy complexions are frequently the result of overly-high color saturation. (Many early digital cameras that had bright color otherwise also had bright red faces.) In your editing software, try tweaking down the saturation - some programs will call it "saturation," others will just call it "color," still others may term it "intensity." All the colors will get somewhat duller, but chances are they were artificially bright anyway. If your editing software has a "gamma" adjustment, you might try playing with it also - gamma can lighten the midtones, but still leave the more saturated, intense colors alone. (Actually, I'd try the gamma setting first, as that's the more likely cause of the problem.) Your software may not have a gamma adjustment, in which case, you can try to achieve the same effect with contrast & brightness (but not as easily.)

Good Luck!

(Any others with experience with the HP 722C, please chime in!)
