DC210A

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have a DC210A that came loaded with firmware version 1.51 in English. I have been trying to upload it with the Plus firmware but when I do it only reads in Japanese and there doesn't seem to be a language preference page.

Any assistance appreciated.

Danny-

That's pretty bizarre, but maybe consistent with the results some others have reported (see our "tips" page at http://www.imaging- resource.com/TIPS.HTM). Apparently, Kodak has jiggered Japanese models of the DC210 so that they won't take English-language firmware upgrades. Was your camera bought in Japan? (If it wasn't, I'd definitely take this up with Kodak tech support! - If it was , I'm not sure what you can do...) Good Luck!

Dave,

It would appear that the firmware itself is making the distinction. I had a look at the firmware in a text editor, not much to see as it is compiled, except it definetly makes a distinction between DC 210A and other models. This distinction was not present in version 1.51 (the one that worked). I bought the camera in Hong Kong. I asked for an English version and was shown this one which was in English. It now appears that the firmware was altered back to 1.51 from the Japanese equivalent of 3.1. I would think that the DC210A was Kodaks first go at the Plus camera. I cannot understand why Kodak are going this way. Their web site makes no distinction between models and advertises the update for all DC210 owners. Am I excluded because I have a DC210A ??

Thanks for your response.

Hi folks,

I'm in the same boat. I bought a DC210A in Hong Kong not knowing it was grey (I made a big deal of asking for the UK version, but I didn't know the model nos etc. at the time being new to digital).

Kodak UK don't want to help. I'm sure they could post the right software on the web but don't want to encourage the grey marketers.
