Teleconverters

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Dear all,

Any expert out there kind enough to share some resources on Teleconverters for Digital Camera or Camcorders? Things like where to buy, which brand and what to look out for etc will be quite useful to usespecially given the low power zoom available on Digicam available inthe market. Thank you.

Andy

You can find digicam wide/tele converters by Tiffen (many web sources, do a search on http://www.shopper.com for "tiffen accessories") and Raynox (Wolf camera as well as web sources). Sizes include 0.5x, 0.65x wide and 1.5x, 2.0x, 3.x-Raynox only. IMO, the Tiffen wide angles show considerably less barrel distortion than the Raynox models IMO. They come in multiple lens diameters; I use the 37mm size plus a step-up ring on a Nikon CP900.

Sorry for the slow response - I want to put a plug in for Ricky Lo at Bugeye Digital (www.bugeyedigital.com) They carry the Raynox stuff, and a few other things besides. I don't know how their prices compare, maybe not as good as Shopping.com or other large outfits (they're just a small company), but he's a nice guy and appears to work hard & care about his customers' satisfaction...

Another distributor of teleconverter lenses is THK [Tessina-Hoya- Kenko] Photo, Inc., which markets a variety of converters from 0.42x wide angle to 5X tele for the compact camcorder market. They come in sizes from 37mm on up. The company can be reached at http://www.thkphoto.com. Their site contains an option to locate retailers/distributors by ZIP code.
