looking for inexpensive Image organizer?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I am looking for an inexpensive (under $50) image organizer for organizing my digital pictures on my computer. I have microsoft picture it!, which is ok for editing and projects but not so hot at organizing. I saw some references to Image AXS Pro in another discussion. This is a little too much for my needs. Are there any other suggestions?

Deirdre- There are a *bunch* of inexpensive image-organizers, but unfortunately, I'm not too well versed on their relative merits. There's a trimmed-down version of ImageAXS (called just ImageAXS, minus the "Pro") that might be a possibility. There's also Portfolio from Extensis, although that may be a bit pricey (I think it's around $99.) On the PC only, G&A Imaging makes PhotoRecall, which was well- received, but I haven't played with it much (have a copy, just no time to test). Many of the low-end image editing applications have organizers built into them, such as LivePix, PhotoDeluxe, and PictureIt, although again, I can't comment on their relative merits. Also on the PC only, JASC software (makers of the excellent and inexpensive Paint Shop Pro) have an organizer too, in the form of JASC Media Center. Many of these companies will have free trial versions you can download from the 'web, so you can try before you buy...

How about it? Anyone out there have a favorite program for image organization?

Deirdre:

I use Image AXS standard version and find it works well. You can buy this for less than 70.00. Also using Jasc Paint Shop Pro and am very impressed with all the features in this inexpensive program. The "browse" feature is handy to see all the images in thumbnail view and simply click to bring up the full image. It supports many file formats so is extremely versatile.

I do recommend the "Picture Explorer". This software could be downloaded free of charge for trial purposes. If you like it, it cost $26 to register it. I have used it for couple of years and I do have many other software products at different costs (some much more expensive), but overall this is one of my favorite digital photo software.
