Hi, i have a 5 yr old girl who within a year was diagnosed with both Addisons and SA. Has anyone ever seen this double whammy. Any new secrets on SA treatments. I like bath oil and Humilac. With Addisons, I am now using DOCP and it is wonderful. i give my own injections and she is better then she was without Addisons! Less of a "nervous Nellie"

I am a member of Versatility in Poodles (VIP)and a few other dog organizations. The number one concern we have is to protect the breeds. I want to do what I can to protect dogs and owners from suffering with the common known diseases and have posted my worst, one litter experience on my website to share with the poodle world, its breeders and its pet owners: There, I caution breeders from the use of one (of dozens) of litters I have produced because it has produced so many problems. "Where is the proof of all these (told of) problems?" A person, that had just lost their beloved poodle sired by one of these dogs, recently asked me on the Poodle Support Group e-mail list. I could not answer such a ridiculous accusation that I may be making this up or acknowledge the other request that breeders be silent about problems they know are present in dogs they have produced. My best thought as to where the proof lies, is to ask anyone that has had a litter by one of these dogs (Tiara U Litter 1987 – please do not confuse with Tiara U Litter 1998). Only one breeder in Canada has reported to have a 100% clear litter with an ’87 Tiara U litter sire; this out of dozens reported to me. It is unethical NOT to divulge these known problems and thus possibly cause hundreds of people associated with these wonderful dogs and the dogs themselves pain and suffering. The proof of that statement lies at the VIP website: Go to *enter*, then to get educated* and select: Don't Be a Victim of an Unethical Breeder: (Toy, Miniature, Standard). Select Standard and read: #5. “Has there been any occurrence of bloat or gastric tortion, seizure, epilepsy, diabetes, thyroid disease, hemolytic anemia, allergic skin diseases, thrombocytopenia, allergic gastroenteritis or Addison's disease in the sire or dam or their relatives? answer: These problems can be hereditary and seem to be more prevalent in some lines.” This Breeder’s Ethics Questionnaire is also listed on my own website. It is the code of ethics in which I adhere. I have been a Breeder of this very fine variety since 1976.

Hi Julie.. I'm glad that there are breeders out there that care about ethics. In 33 years of poodle fancy, I became disgusted with practices such as fixing teeth, cutting nerves in the tails so they would not curl, dyeing blue Standards to appear black (or browns to cover dilution), or tinting winter noses. Tranquilizing a dog for the ring is abonimable and yet has been at least in times past, fashionable. Equally abhorrent is color prejudice. We nearly lost all the other colors when the "black mania" spread. All other colors were considered "genetic garbage" (direct quote from a certain breeder). While we all have color preferences, the world would be dull indeed if ALL Standards were black! BTW, I've had the pleasure of meeting some of your early Standards when we lived in PA.
