Connection to Mac

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I'm a bit confused about what cameras (if any) connect fairly simply to a Mac (older PowerPC desktop). And if not what hardware is needed to feed photos in. I'm thinking about a Kodak 260... Any feedback welcome. Thanks

I believe Kodak is now selling their Mac connection kit for the DC260 and 220, which provides the wherewithal to plug them into your Mac's serial port. I don't have the part number or cost, but they've typically charged about $50 for this in the past, with prior cameras.

If you can afford one, a SCSI-interfaced reader for "CF" (CompactFlash) memory cards will produce **dramatically** faster file transfers. (Serial-port downloads of the huge files from a 260 will typically take well over a minute apiece.) Another option if you have a PowerBook is to get an inexpensive CF-to-PCMCIA adapter card (they run as little as $15). With one of those, you can just plug the card into your PC card slot, and it shows up as a disk drive.

In our reviews, we always try to indicate which OS' are supported by the cameras. Look under the "Image Storage and Interface" heading that's in each review.
