King & Balloon and Galaga don't mix!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

I've been playing too much King & Balloon! I've gotten used to being able to take a hit without any ill effects. The funny thing is, I switched to a game of Galaga and was running into bullets thinking, "that's okay, I'll get these buggers as soon as I reappear. Dang, it sure is taking long... awww crap!"

Well, back to scoring points on obscure games. I think I've found a niche.

That's a bad habit to pick up

Yeah, if you play too much King and Balloon you get used to taking hits and think it's no big deal... which then screws you up in Galga, Space Invaders or whatever... since there's no option, you've GOT to dodge those bullets! Boy, K&B would be a lot harder if you didn't get infinite "lives".

BTW, great King and Balloon score! I'm working on beating it though. ;) And is it just me, or is the speech that was emulated in m34b3 REALLY annoying? Every 10 seconds it's "HELP! HELP! THAAAANKK YOU!" I'll have to stick with Beta 2 if I'm going to do recordings for that...

Re: That's a bad habit to pick up

I don't run the DOS version because I have an Ensoniq PCI soundcard so I haven't yet heard the speech in K & B. I was excited about it when I read the whatsnew.txt file, maybe I shouldn't be so anxious after all. :-)

Yeah, I'm happy with the score, but was really bummed that I didn't tip it over 70,000. So close! I knew you'd be trying to top it BBH so I've been trying to improve as well. I really like these cat & mouse games. Have fun!

Re: King & Balloon

The speech emulation only adds "HELP!" (which is repeated every second once a balloon starts to take the King away), "THANK YOU!" (when he is dropped), and "BYE BYE!" (that's pretty obvious). The first two samples get so annoying that you'll turn the volume down in disgust if you're anything like me. :)

Going to try to beat that score now... it's the competition that makes MARP so fun!
