VAX computers and the PDP 11's

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hi Everyone, I've just thought of something for you VAX users to consider. The old VAX's used a PDP 11 front end to store the boot up parameters. You may find that your VAX is compliant, but the boot up PDP 11 may come back to bite you. Just thinking out loud. regards LM.

Anybody with a VAX that old should replace it right away. The lease/ maintenance cost on a new VAX is less than the maintenance cost alone on one of those old behemoths. BY the way, the new Alphas are PC/VAX hybrids, but are fully Y2K-compliant.

We must have some real old-timers here if the Alpha, introduced in 1990, is "new."

The first VAX I ever worked on was a 730. That was when I worked in the RT-11 development group at DEC. :-) Yup, long time ago. We just bought a couple cute little Alphas for home and are gonna run VMS on one for nostalgia value.
