Y2K Compliancy of Detroit Edison

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Electric Utilities and Y2K : One Thread

I need as much info as possible about Detroit Edison....if they are Y2K compliant or trying to achieve that status, if they have contingency plans in case their deadline falls well past 1-1-2000, or anything else related to these topics. Does anyone know where to find these answers?

Hi Deborah. The only one who knows where Detroit Edison is in their compliancy status is Detroit Edison. Call them and ask to speak with their Y2K Project Manager or IT Manager. Some utilities do have their own web sites. If so, the URL is usually listed on the utility bill you get, along with phone numbers for customer service and information. Don't expect to find a lot of written details about where they are in Y2K efforts, though. Generally, all Y2K information for any utility or large business is vetted through the legal department first and can be summarized as "don't worry, we're working on it". Your best bet is to ask about those contingency plans, etc. directly over the phone.

Good luck and best wishes.

Deborah, I logged onto the Det. Edison website and e-mailed a question re: Y2K preparedness. I received an email reply the following day that gave me an 800 number to call regarding Y2K questions. What a joke! On the other end was a recorded message telling me that Detroit Edison was currently working on the Y2K problem. Nothing else...end of information. IMHO, no company is going to tell anyone anything about their Y2K progress unless it's to crow about the fact that thay've completed their remediation. The threat of Y2K related lawsuits is very real and extremely hazardous for companies to navigate right now. Everyone's waiting to see what kind of liability protection they'll get from Congress when they pass the Y2K Disclosure Bill. Even then, we'll get the legal minimum of sugar coated info from non-Y2K compliant companies. Gotta keep those stock prices up ya' know Sorry I can't give a more upbeat spin on all this but I'm stocking food and water in my undisclosed location just in case Keith
