Updated drivers for original Epson Stylus Photo

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

We reported on our news page a few days back that a Macintouch (http://www.macintouch.com/) reader discovered he could use the Mac drivers from the new Epson Stylus 700 with his original Stylus Photo. This gave him a lot of neat new features lacking in the original software (such as the ability to print pages 2- or 4-up).

Today, two new pieces of information: First, Macintouch reader Tom Easterday wrote: "With the driver for the 700, the only way to select Photo Quality Glossy Film (which we often use) you must select 1440 dpi printing. While the driver allows you to do this, the printer lays down too much ink in this mode saturating the paper with puddles of ink."

Another Macintouch reader added: "Mr. Adams is correct the update to the Stylus 700 does work on the Stylus Photo per an Epson technical representative I spoke with last week. There are no more updaters planned for release on the old Stylus Photo. They said to make sure you are printing at a maximum of 720 dpi, not the 1440 limit on this upgrade as the 700 printer does have 1440 / 720 resolution. [...] They said to continue to experiment with the 700 updates as this is all there will be for this discontinued Stylus Photo printer. I personally am using this upgrade on the Stylus Photo printer and found it to be excellent with regard to printing color, prints really well with text, and a big upgrade (many more features) to the software that shipped with this printer."

While disappointing to hear that Epson is dropping official support for the original Stylus Photo, it's great news that the Stylus 700 drivers will run the beast!
