Best facial expressions?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TitanicShack : One Thread

OK, here's (I think) a good one: Which facial expressions from the movie do you like best? Just to have this thread started, I'll name a few of mine:

1. when old Rose looks sheepishly around the story of the diamond (when Brock and Bodine realize she was "wearing the night Titanic sank")

2. when Jack raises his eyebrows after the "you seem to be an indoor girl" and also Rose's face and anger as being distracted by Jack

3. when Rose smiles to Jack after looking at his drawings and being told by Jack "I see you", followed by her "And...?"

4. when Rose is in lowered in the boat and Jack kind of says "Good bye" (you see the rocket exploding above his head)

5. when Cal laughs realizing he "put the diamond in the coat"...and he "put the coat on her"

6. when Rose is being drawn and she has a serious face, like in the drawing

7. when you see little Cora telling her father "Daddy, it's a ship!" and then turning her face to the coming car; same Cora later during the steerage party, being reassured by Jack "you're still my best girl, Cora"

8. when Jack goes over the script saying "over the bed...aah couch" 9. when old Rose says "the reflection has changed a bit" while looking in her mirror and before, when she tells Brock, "yes, the woman in the picture is me"

10. when Ismay realizes in horror that the ship will founder and later when he is lowered in the boat

11. when Mr. Andrews laughs at Rose's comment on Freud and Ismay's face while asking if Freud was a passenger

12. when Jack is at the first class dinner and asks for more champagne and when he shyly waves at Cal after being told by Cal "not that I would impune your work, sir"

And so on... Any other favorites?

I am in agreement with what Dan has already listed; but here are some of MY favorites:

1) "The best I've seen ma'am...hardly any rats..." (Jack at dinner...I love smug)

2) "And you find that kind of rootless existence appealing, do you?" (Ruth at dinner); and Molly's scathing look after that line (I believe this is my favorite expression out of all).

3) Cal's look when Jack tosses him the lighter at dinner.

4) The look on Jack's face when he informs Rose, "He did landscapes".

5) EVERYONE'S FACES after old Rose describes the sketching scene.

6) Fabrizzio when shouting "I willa never foragetta you!" (leaving port)

7) Tommy's face when he punches out the steward after the guys break the gate down (Irish temper!)

8) When Rose says, "Oh stop it, Mother; you'll give yourself a nosebleed." (this is also my favorite line)

9) The look on Thomas Andrews' face while saying, "I'm sorry I didn't build you a stronger ship, young Rose."

10) And Jack: "So...do you wanna go to a REAL party?"

OH MY GOSH! I TOTALLY FORGOT:

When Rose blows smoke in her mothers face. That look of defiance is brilliant!!!

It was great the way humor was injected in tense drama scenes, for example:

The look of the steward right after Rose has punched him in the nose, while he says, "The hell with you!"

After Rose says, "I didn't [find out Jack didn't steal the diamond]. I just realized I already knew", the look on Jack's face. Then, the look of Rose after he says, "Keep looking!" and while she says, "Oh!"

Great list, Dan!!! You've named my personal favorites....when Jack makes the comment about assuming Rose is an "indoor" girl...and Jack watching Rose being lowered in the lifeboat while the flares explore above in the sky behind him.

Here are a couple of others that I particularly enjoy:

Rose's face after Cal orders the "lamb...rare...with very little mint sauce" and then he says to her: "You do like lamb, right, sweet pea?"

And near the end, when Jack and Rose are hanging on for dear life, Jack hugs Rose fiercely tight up against the left side of his face.

Thanks again, Dan!!

My personal favorite is when Rose tells cal "I'd rather be his ***** than your wife!"

Second, is when Ruth is reminding Rose the money is gone. Rose says "How could I forget, you remind me everyday!"

They are all good but I like the look on Jack's face when Rose is chugging the beer and she says "What, you think a girl from first class can't drink?"

And..the look on Rose's mothers face when Jack is teaching Rose how to spit. What a witch!!!

And..lastly the look that Rose gives the blond girl as they are clinging to the back of the ship as it is starting to descend. What fear...

My three favorite expressions are:

1) Cal's expression after Rose spits in his face

2) The look on the steward's face after Rose and Jack yell "SHUT UP!"

3) Everyone's face after Rose describes the sketching scene

I agree with all of you above, here's a few more......

When Rose finds the necklace in her pocket with the Statue of Liberty in the background.

When Rose goes to get help and Jack says "I'll just wait here" as he is handcuffed to the pipe.

I really like "an indoor girl", also.

When Rose is trying to explain why she was "leaning over" the back of the ship to see the "ahh, ahh ,......propellers?" the ship

Okay, I have one absolute favourite "expression" scene. The one when she's just finished describing the portrait and we see her audience, hanging on, just waiting to see if they "did it". It cracked me up every time.

1) Hmmm, I really like the look where Rose wrinkles her nose up and says "Say we'll go there sometime, to that pier, even if we only just talk about it."

2) I like the look on Cal's face when everyone toasts "make it count" and he raises his glass late and looks at Jack.

3) I like how at the beginning of the movie, Jack squints his eye when he thinks he's going to get punched by Sven.

4) I love how in the "first look" scene...Jack is looking at Rose as she is standing up by the rail, and she looks down briefly and turns away quickly, but then you see her look at him again out of the corner of her eye.

5) The look Rose gives Jack when he has to confirm her story about the propellers...her eyes get big and she mouths something silently to him.

6) I LOVE THE LOOK at the dinner when Jack says "i like not knowing who I'm going to meet" and Rose's look at him, at that moment, she has a look of love/admiration/respect all in one.

7) I like Rose's look on her face right before she punches the steward..."you're going the wrong way! LISTEN!"

8) Cal's face when Rose says "I'm not a foreman in one of your mills that you can command...I'm your fiancee."

9) The Captain's face right before he grabs the wheel, and the water crashes into the bridge.

10) Lovejoy's face right before the ship splits.

11) I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the look on Jack's face as he runs through the door, looking for Rose after she jumps back onto the ship.

12) JJ Astor's look when Jack says "no, the Chippewa Falls Dawsons actually.

I'm sure I'll think of more! and oh yeah, all the ones you guys mentioned already!! =)

I can't decide!!! I must say though that the look Molly gives Ruth at dinner when Ruth said "You find that kind of rootless existence apealing do you?" That look is right up there. I swear my Mother looks at me that wat every time I say something inappropriate!! It was really unsettling to see it on that big screen!

-- Miranda Swearingen (Kylen1@hotmail.com), September 25, 1998.

The look on Jack's face when he realizes only Rose can fit on the piece of wood. Although, I still say he could've tried harder.

-- cgk (cbroce@usit.net), September 26, 1998.

The best ones(apart from the ones above)....

1)Roses' face when she steps out of the car to board the Titanic

2)Roses' face when Cal says'..."You like Lamb right sweetpea?"

3)Cals' face when he invites Jack to dinner

4)Roses' face when she puts her hand over the necklace as Cal says..."Open your heart to me Rose"

5)Jack and Rose when they are cracking up whilst being chased by Lovejoy after she has been drawn.

6)Roses' face when Jack pulls her closer to dance.

7)Roses' and Jacks' face as they ask eachother if they are nervous about making love to eachother.

8)Roses' face when she opens her eyes on the bow.

9)Jacks' face when he is making Rose promise she'll never give up.

10)Roses' face when she lets go of Jack

Everyones face after old Rose tells them of Jacks' death.

THE WHOLE BLOODY CAST HAD BRILLIANT FACES!!

Josephine nailed it on the head for me. Kate Winslet is a great actress in both her dialogue and the way she physically potrays all of the emotions she feels.
