Okay, I know I've asked this question about 50 times before, but I don't think I have on this site, only at Mr Showbiz. Therefore, which line from the movie do you think sums it up? For example, if one was to say "frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" we'd know they were talking about Gone With The Wind. Or if they said "Yippekaya mother *bleep* we'd know they were talking about Die Hard (or some of us action fans would).

So after all that blather, which line do you think could be taken from the movie to make people think of Titanic straight away? One suggestion I've heard is "Iceburg, right ahead!" which is a pretty good one. Anyone got any others?

Answers

"Iceburg, dead ahead" could be confusing since that phrase or something similar is also used in the previous Titanic movies, so it's not really unique. How about "You jump, I jump"?? Totally unique and relevant to the devotion that eventually held Jack and Rose together after its initial usage in the suicide scene.

For me, the essence of the movie is resumed in old Rose's lament:

"Afterward the seven hundred people in the boats had nothing to do but wait... wait to die, wait to live, wait for an absolution which would never come."

No wonder this quote appears on the cover of cassette 2 of the widescreen videotape format. And on a few Titanic screensavers. As I said before at Mr.Showbiz, they all die. Some die right away, with the ship. Others, the 705 or so, the ones that survived, died at little in that place. They lost a part of themselves when they lost their families or friends, part of their beliefs and most of their security. Absolution would never be reached until physical death...

"It makes you want to weep in frustration". Not from the movie, from Turan. Regarding that "script". I think it about sums up that movie though. For me at least.

Okay, I think one line basically sums it up. I mean, doesn't everyone on the planet know this at the mention of the phrase " I promise" ? I think the basic staight away line is " I'll never let go" or "I promise". Or maybe, "I'm the king of the world!!!"

I Don't remember either of the two lines above. But I admit I haven't seen the film since April. I do remember the line , "It is a little slut, isn't it? Look at me when I speak to you!" after Cal slaps Rose, and "Is that what you want? To be a whore to a gutter rat?" when Rose runs away from Cal on the boat deck just before she "spits out" the line "I'd rather be his whore than your wife.". Those, as I remember seem to be the only lines referring to Rose's somewhat improper or "loose" morals. I don't think one line in "Titanic" can sum it up as perfectly as "Yippee ki yay, mother(eff)er" sums up the spirit of "Die Hard", THE best and most influential action film made to date. Plus, I prefer even a mangled Beethoven's 9th to MHWGO. (But don't get me started on the use of Sibelius' "Finlandia" in Die Hard II. It's a perfect example of Hollywood trying to exploit a perceived Die Hard "formula" that continues to this day.....)

Dan,Titanic is still playing at 10pm tonight at the Navy Pier IMAX cinema. Why don't you take all of your friends and neighbors with you and chart LIMOS for everyone and dress in Period clothing of that day?

When I think of the movie Titanic, the quote, "I'm the King of the World!!! Whhhhooooooo Hooooooo!" Always comes to mind. But if I think about it, I think Titanic has the most memorable quotes out of anty movie I have ever seen.

I think that Titanic is the most memorable movie i have ever seen...and it has some great quotes, "you jump i jump" is my favorite along with "I'll never let go" they really remind you of the meaning of the movie
