Economist Y2K series

The Economist, that venerable Brit publication, will be running a nine-part series on Y2K. It should be posted on the web tomorrow, 9/17/98. (http://www.economist.com/)

Hey, thanks for pointing this out! My friend (a Brit) and I were both wondering when The Economist would cover this---we knew it had to be soon.

The take of The Economist is very important. This is a widely respected weekly read regularly by the likes of Bill Gates, for example, and other businessmen, bureaucrats, and leaders. A cursory glance through the contents of the summary seems to suggest that The Economist is not even sure a recession will result from Y2K! Interesting indeed. They make the point that the Auckland power outtage, which was expected to be felt in the economy, barely made a dent. As did the UPS strike, which was absorbed by other package handlers. I wonder if the situation is comparable. In any case, The Economist is read by the wealthy, powerful bureaucrats and businessmen, an educated elite throughout Europe and America, and they will probably sleep a little better after reading this article.

There are actually 9 different articles, and overall I thought it was very good coverage.
