Can I breed my cat with a purebred

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Maine Coon Cats : One Thread

Hi, We have a wonderfull 50% calico Maincoon we call "Mercedes". What are my chances of finding a breeder that will allow me to contract for their stud service. Do you have any suggestions? I live in Bentonville, Arkansas. (the extreme northwest corner of the state)

Dear David,

It's very unlikely that you'll find a Maine Coon breeder who will be willing to allow his stud to be used with your unpedigreed female. MCBFA members are extremely careful about the lineage of their lines, and are also bound by our Code of Ethics, which states that their cats be bred only to registered Maine Coons.

My suggestion to you would be that if you are interested in breeding Maine Coons, attend some shows, get to know the breed and the breeders, and when you're ready, buy an excellent Maine Coon female and arrange for stud service with the advice and guidance of the female's breeder.

If you're interested in Maine Coons, please sign on to the Mcats discussion board at http://www.onelist.com/subscribe.cgi/mcats Here you will meet a whole lot of dedicated Maine Coon lovers whose knowledge you can tap into.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to e-mail me :-)

Purrs, Trish
