Ricoh RDC 4300

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hi....am wondering if you or anyone has done a review or critique on the Ricoh RDC 4300. There are only four cameras I am looking at and this is the only one that seems to have it all in specs. but there is no way I can evaluate the picture quality so far. The othe cameras are the Toshiba PDR M1, the Nikon PC 900 and the Fuji MX 700 in that order of importance. Thanks

I've been playing "tag" with the Ricoh product manager the last few weeks. They're just launching a new model tomorrow, the RDC-4200, which looks to have much the same specs, but cheaper. With your permission, I'll use your email to prod the PM into action! As to your question about finding images, I honestly haven't seen any. You might try going to Deja News (http://www.dejanews.com/) and searching on the model number in the rec.photo.digital newsgroup - you're bound to find *someone* with images posted on their web site. Good Luck!

Thanks, Dave Etchells

Yes I'm back for two reasons....first I found out that the Ricoh does not have an optical view finder, in other words one has to frame the shot thru the LCD viewer...unacceptable to me and further they are selling a cheaper model in Japan (4200) and plan to sell it here for $100 less than the 4300 (difference is the lack of sound recording). Now I am serious about either the Nikon PC 900 or the Olympus D 600L. I am favoring the Oly but it does not have a video output and is tricky in low light (but can be done contrary to the review). The Oly is a very intuitive working true SLR camera.

For reviews of the RDC-4300, see the link to Andy Kwan's review and photo gallery on the User Pages section of Steve's Digicam website or my posting in the reviews section of DCRP
