government non-compliance

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I read today that a House panel expects more than one-third of the most important systems in government to not meet the Y2K deadline. Significant non-compliance seems inevitable but the bottom-line is surely-What will this mean?Has Congress or other governmental sources given indication of the possible ramifications of the expected failure?

Seriously, Newt's my district congressman. I'm bringing these things directly to him/his staff. Also, I'm continuing to stay directly in contact with him (his office, obviously, tends to listen to an obnoxious local voter rather than an impersonal "other") but have had little feedback the last two weeks.

They (the fed's) are begining to respond, but it's obviously too late to assume success, or even partial non-failure. FBI investigations of Y2K "domestic terrorists" worries me even more...anybody else been audited?

I'll keep you guys informed.

Yes, I am having my mams put through the wringer right now, in a very big way. My accountant (nice guy) is slowly, slowly, making headway, at $150 per.

Go Y2K, I want widespread screwups, if it means less Big Bro, and his evil henchmen.

PS

I should make the point that I am far from wealthy (too far in fact, but we all have dreams) I am a regular guy who busts his ass running a small business, small profit margin, can't find good help, yada, yada, yada. $150 per hurts bad.

BUT, I would rather pay my accountant, who makes an honest living doing what he does, than pay big bro extortion money on funds that have already been taxed.

This one will scare the hell out of you.

http://www.charlotte.com/0907terror.htm

What's frightening is, they (the FBI) aren't targetting inner city gangs already committing murder, robbery, and rape. They are targetting Christian groups preparing to avoid trouble.

Please. This is real trouble. Real persecution. Complain (somehow) to your congressman/senator/local paper personally. It may not help, but ....

By the way, assume the worst. Suppose a Christian group in Western Idaho locks itself into a compound and waits out Jan, 2000 behind locked doors. Who is that going to harm? Why is the FBI worried about that group? It's five people who aren't rioting in downtown Washington DC or Chicago or Atlanta or Portland or LA or San Diego or Houston .....

Why is the FBI targetting Christian groups gathering blankets, generators and food for soup kitchens in their church? Shouldn't they be worried about murderers gathering weapons to kill others?

Last time I looked, the Sign of the Cross wasn't a gang signal.

Wow - I was afraid of that. Also of food and cash storage being deemed illegal "hoarding" and all my carefully prepared stuff being confiscated. Will strength in numbers help? Will it help if an entire community starts to prepare together, I mean?

For heaven's sake, I have a terrible feeling that is a Christian group DOES hole up for the holidays, we may see them on the evening news as part of a siege with the ATF and whatever 3 letter boys they bring to these events!

Great-granny Holly, I know you went to this "expo" in Washington. They say you "contributed financial support for those who carry on the campaign against the US government!!" That is insane! I had seen a portion of this article on another thread, but they left off the "rest of the story." Are we all being set up?

This is an excellent reason NOT to post your real name and location on any internet forum. It would not surpise me one bit if some of those people with three letters on their back are watching these Y2K forums. I have always said that I love my country but it's my government I fear. Be careful folks.

Are you sure that this article is any more accurate than the ones on Year 2000?

Uncle Deedah, do you really want disaster to happen?

-- Buddy Y. (buddy@bellatlantic.net), September 11, 1998.

Buddy

No, not really. What I want is to be left alone. For some reason Uncle Sam thinks I enjoy audits, I don't. I've paid what I owe and have all my receipts, but the new friendly version of the 'revenuers' will not let it die. Each time my accountant returns from his appointment, he says "Now they want..." It's endless.

I would rather pay a national sales tax, and perhaps pay more in taxes, than have to deal with this crap.

Dear Be Careful,

Within 50 miles of my house, there are 4 million people. While that does not give me much comfort concerning Y2K, it hardly makes me afraid that the government is going to come knocking on my door over my postings on a forum because I let them know I live in Texas. If the government wants to "round us up" for our "survivalist practices", all they have to do is look for our "paper trail." If you order anything through the mail, charge over the phone, or even shop with a "club" card like at Sam's, you leave a traceable trail. I realize that many of our freedoms are slowly being eroded, but I will not live in fear and paranoia. Sorry if I sound a little disgusted, I just read about 150 pages of Starr's report. Can you see the "CEO" of any other company getting away with this? So, what do you think? Will Slick Willie be the Comeback Kid?

Am I the only one just a little bit worried that Mr. Clinton will be our fearless leader during y2k? This would, I believe, be only slightly better than having Mr. Gore at the helm of our "ship of state" but not by very much.

Klinton won't walk away. He knows that with what is coming, there may be no way for us to have an election in 2000. So he can declare himself king...

Why else put up with all this embarassment...?

(If I have to CRAWL to the voting booths, I will...)
