DIGITAL OUTS AND RECORDING A SEQUENCE WITH A SETUP

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Kurzweil Users : One Thread

Hi Mike,

It looks like you are starting a new forum. this is a great idea, one would think that there should be a gigantic kurzweil forum in place, but i can't find one.

How to record and playback in a sequencer (MOTU), a 'setup' on the kurzweil. THis seems to be a problem since the re are multiple midi channels with a setup? Trying to record a sequence in motu with the kurz causes the system to crash.

I can do it...(but system soon crashes) by using multitrack recording in performer, and i was told a way to do it by setting both the receive and transmit midi a certain way... i tried what i was told but couldn't quite figure it out...

any thoughts...

Thanks for your help. I will put this both in the forum and into your email. It looks like the forum is just starting up, so I would like to fan the flames a little to get it going...

John Landgraf THANKS... JOHN LANDGRAF

PS: GETTING THIS FORUM GOING WOULD BE A COOL THING.

Thanks, the forum hasn't been a great success though. Most people are posting on the K2000 users list instead. << I was recently told that the kdfx can't be used as a digital out to bypass the not so hot a to d... digitec converter outs, and get a great clean digital out that i can go directly into the mac with. I was told i need the pricy dmti instead. It seems from this information you posted, and from i thought i understood from kurz that i could get the kdfx option and use it for a digital out.. and get some good efx as well. any thoughts? If i just used the optical outs and converted to spdif in on the 2408 would i still be going through the a to d...da.da.da digitec converter sequence?>>

With KDFX you can use the digital outs and BYPASS the digitech completely. This can only be done at 48kHz sampling rate. The DMTi option is not needed unless you want 8 independent streams of audio. << I also wonder if you know how to record and playback in a sequencer (MOTU), a 'setup' on the kurzweil. The only sequencer that I know of that allow you to do this is Logic. On one track you can access as many different MIDI channels on as many different MIDI devices as you want....with full control over key ranges, velocity switching, arpegios..etc.

I use Logic and have no problems recording a sequence from a setup as Mike attested. I also looked into the digital out issue. I get a fair amount of SCSI noise bleed thru to the audio of my K2500. I use Creamware TripleDat for recording digital audio. My card has SP/DIF inputs and fortunately, Optical. I use the optical which is inherently more noise immune than an electrical signal ( at least while propagating thru the fiber). So far, so good. I have more recoding to do; so the jury is still out.
