Message Board may be one answer

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poodle Support Group : One Thread

I know of several friends who are/were members of PSG that are either unsuscribed or will soon due to the high number of postings. The complaint I hear the most is that so many are posts that could have been sent privately. Perhaps this message board will be one way they can participate without downloading 100+ messages per day and wading through all of them, trying to find something they are interested in reading.

Most message boards have topics or threads which make it easier to follow a particular subject.

The main drawback I can see to this venue is the inability to "save" messages to a folder.

Well, as I see it, the message boards could be a great boon to the users who have access to the WWW. OTOH, since the format is different, I suspect that it will be an accessory to, rather than a replacement for the PSG email group.

FWIW, I think it's a wonderful place to gather intelligence for the FAQ.

FWIW

Sharon, actually, you can save the message. I went to "File," "Save as," or alternatively, "Save frame as," then saved message to a new folder, which I established named PSGEMail/TechSupport. The only problem is I never know how to open files like these with the little tiny icons I can't even see. I opened it in WordPad and it displayed it in a fixed format which is *terrible* to read. May be another way to open it.

Perhaps some savvy techno-type can tell me how to tell which application to use to open these stupid files with their invisible icons which don't mean anything to me anyway, whew! Wanted to get *that* off my chest for a long time!

A limitation I discovered is that you cannot tab between the Email address/Full name/Subject line/Message boxes. Now this particular limitation is one which makes me nuts! Always having to reach for the mouse, Eeeeek! I am always more comfortable if I can almost exclusively use either they keyboard *OR* the mouse, ie. mousing around the EMail messages. In the case of the message response screen, you're already on the keyboard and it makes sense to *stay* on the board, rather than reaching for mousie! But then, you can't please everyone. Isn't there a way to make tabbing possible between fields? It seems to me that some places have that facility and other don't.

But then, who am I to talk? I can't even get Sergio's web site updated.

Further software testing

OK, Greg, *this* from a data processing project manager in my previous life. I did some more testing. Actually, right clicked on the message frame and "send page" to myself. This command results in a "post-reply" window, where I put my own EMail address and sent it to myself. Then, I saved it to my old message boxes. Either solution is rather cumbersome but manageable. The latter requires a second opening of the message and then a "save to" command.

IMHO (very H), this is too cumbersome and inconvient for this old lady. I like the PSG format.....one click for download, messages are there, saved easily (also lost easily). I will continue to try to keep up with this format, but it was hard enough to keep up with posting on one list, two lists may be too much for me. Betsy

saving posts/messages to this board

Just a thought, but those that have Netscape can cut and paste interesting posts. If you are not familiar with how to 'c & p', highlight the appropriate material, hit control + c. This copies it to the clipboard. Then, go to your word processor, open a new document, hit control + v and it will copy the clipboard contents to the new page.

Remember, when you hit control +c - you will copy over anything you might already have saved there, so make sure you copy to a new document asap.
