How can I check my PC hardware for Year 2000 compliance?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Barnraising FAQ : One Thread

I've heard that over 70% of PCs do not have Year 2000-compliant hardware. How can I make sure my system will survive the millenium?

Here's a compliance tester for Windows, DOS, and networks that analyzes "hardware for year 2000 incompatibilities and automatically repairs systems as needed." You can use the program for free on your home computer, but you have to pay if you're a commercial user. It apparently received a 5-star rating from ZDNet. And here's a review by InfoWorld. I've installed and run the program on my home computer and apparently I don't have much to worry about.

This Year 2000 hardware compliance program, which was developed by NSTL, an organization which bills itself as "the world's leading independent information technology testing organization," tests only the BIOS and the real-time clock's functionality of your computer. Operating systems and applications, of course, must be tested separately.
