D-340L Problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

Hello,

I own an Oly D-340L. While using software to access the camera it went into a mode which does not let me take more pictures : When I slide (open) the lens cover the green light next to the viewfinder blinks constantly, and pressing the shutter release button does not take a picture. However, doing all actions through the software works fine! It seems that the camera is stuck in a "computer mode" or something like that.

When the serial cable is not connected, pressing the function button scrolls through the camera modes but the LCD does not turn on and the camera does not take pictures.

Any comment about this problem will help

Thanks, Zadok Ovadia

It's been a while since I worked with the 340, but two possibilities occur to me. First, most Oly cameras have a "reset" button hidden on them somewhere that will force the camera's processor to completely re-initialize itself. A good place to look is inside the SmartMedia card slot, and they're generally recessed: You'll need to use a straightened paper clip to (gently!) press it. You might try this with the camera powered-up, see if that clears the problem.

The other alternative isn't as encouraging, although your symptoms sound a bit different. I had an Oly 220 go bad on me when the serial connector on the camera developed a problem. When the computer is plugged it, it disconnects the internal camera controls. The problem was the connector went bad in such a way that it left the internal controls disconnected even when the computer wasn't plugged in. If this turns out to be the case, the only solution will be to send it back in.

Sorry for the delay in answering your question - our server has been down off and on the last few days as our ISP moved to a new data center. (Very frustrating!)

Good Luck!
